Boyfriend of woman found dead in her home indicted on murder charges


A woman's boyfriend is now being accused of her murder, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.
 
John Giles, Jr., 61 was indicted Wednesday on first degree murder charges in the death of Kimberly Ann Batty, 58.

John Giles Jr. Indicted
for First Degree Murder

On Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at approximately 6:00pm, Cumberland County E-911 received an emergency call concerning an unresponsive female at 154 Dovenshire Drive in Cumberland County. John Giles Jr., age 61 of Crossville was the one who contacted E-911. Fairfield Glade Public Safety responded to the scene along with Cumberland County Emergency Medical Services. Shortly after their arrival, Fairfield Glade Public Safety requested Investigators from the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department to respond. A short time later Investigators with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department along with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation arrived and began investigating the crime scene as a homicide. Investigators identified the victim as Kimberly Ann Batty, age 58 of Crossville, TN.
 
Ms. Batty was discovered lying in the living room area of her home with apparent injuries to her head. At completion of autopsy, it was revealed that Ms. Batty had suffered mortal wounds as a result of blunt force trauma to the head and strangulation. As the investigation continued and evidence was obtained, it was determined that John Giles Jr., age 61 of Crossville, TN had killed Ms. Batty in her home located at 154 Dovenshire Drive in Cumberland County, TN. Ms. Batty and Giles had been in a relationship for approximately four months before her murder.
  
 
On Wednesday, December 12, 2012, Investigators with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation presented their case to a special called Grand Jury at the direction of the District Attorney's Office. The case was presented and an indictment was returned for the offense of first degree murder.
  
Immediately upon obtaining the indictment for the arrest of John Giles Jr., Investigators went to his home located at 109 Hampshire Lane in the Fairfield Glade Community of Cumberland County where he was arrested without incident. Giles was transported to the Cumberland County Justice Center by Fairfield Glade Public Safety where he is currently being held on a $2,000,000 bond for the first degree murder of Kimberly Ann Batty. His arraignment is scheduled for January 25, 2013.

I'm really glad they've been able to figure out what happened and get the guy behind bars this soon, and I know the FF residents are resting much easier. I'm sad for the family and friends.
