Another UT graduate is heading into space this time for an entire year

Another UT graduate is heading into space Friday, this time for an entire year living on the International Space Station. Scott Kelly is a graduate of UT's Space Institute and is one of nine astronauts with UT ties, including Barry Wilmore who returned to Earth on March 11. Scott Kelly's twin brother Mark Kelly is also an astronaut and is married to former Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.

Although UT has a reputation as a party school. and the sanity of these guys riding a rocket into space and orbiting the earth at over 17,000 mph is debatable, a few of them did manage to learn a few things. emoticon

The space station orbits about 253 miles above the earth and if weather conditions are good it can be seen by the naked eye at certain times depending on where you live.

Here's A good time to see it if it's not cloudy. It will be visible for a little over 5 minutes at 5:17 AM Central time on March 31st. It will be traveling from Northwest to Southeast at over 17,000 mph.
