FEDERAL JUDGE SAYS ROANE COUNTY DETAINEE DID NOT DIE FROM OVERDOSE

A federal lawsuit has determined that a Roane County man who had overdosed on muscle relaxers and was being detained by police, died as a result of alleged incompetence. Officers and emergency personnel were called to 26-year-old Dustin Barnwell’s girlfriend’s home in Nov. 2011 to address the fact that Barnwell had stopped breathing, or that is what the original report stated. In reality, it was later discovered through files nearly a year later, that Barnwell’s lungs had been paralyzed from a drug, which attending physicians say was necessary in order to insert a breathing tube. A U.S. District Judge threw out that reason as being “nonsensical.” An affidavit had previously also been filed by a former Roane County medical examiner who alleged that law enforcement officers routinely used such a drug to calm rowdy detainees.

I wonder where else this goes on? emoticon
